Safe fun in the sun

Keep your kids and yourself safe

Keep your kids and yourself safe in the sun this summer with a fun and easy way to remember these top sun safety tips…

Did you know that ongoing, unprotected exposure to the sun under the age of 18 is a key factor in the development of skin cancer later in life? For easily distracted and forgetful little ones and youngsters, this is a very real threat.

And despite certain misconceptions, the truth is that while some groups are more at risk than others, everyone – regardless of ethnicity – can get skin cancer, so it’s important to always take care.

Borrowing the five S’s for sun safety from our far-away neighbours down under – another particularly at-risk part of the world for sun-exposure related cancers – this little infographic may come in handy for you and your family this summer:

  • SLIP on some UV protective clothing.
  • SLOP on some sunscreen – regularly reapply an SPF30 sunscreen (or higher) and don’t forget those little gaps between fingers and toes, as well as your ears and the back of your neck.
  • SLAP on a hat that has a wide brim, rather than a cap.
  • SEEK shade, avoiding direct sunlight between 10am and 4pm.
  • SLIDE on some UV protective sunglasses.
