HOW ARE WE ALL DOING?
From The PO’s Desk
Do you feel it, that little whisper of change in the air? Spring is well on its way – a time of new beginnings, beautiful blooms and, possibly, a case of the sneezes for those less fortunate among us. Yes, allergy season is here, but it doesn’t have to put a complete stopper to your pursuits of outdoor fun. If you know that you suffer from pollen allergies, make an appointment to see your healthcare provider – with the right treatment and a good strategy, you can manage your condition before it spirals out of control.
On that note… when was the last time you paid a general visit to the doctor or clinic sister? If you haven’t had your healthcare checks this year, why not make Spring 2024 your moment to turn over a new leaf? There is no time like the present to get your basic blood tests done and to schedule a health risk assessment. Consider doing this before you embark on any ‘Summer fitness’ regimes, as this may empower you to make informed decisions about any fitness and nutrition changes you are considering and how these can benefit your particular state of health. After all, looking after your body is about so much more than beach season – it’s about taking a long-term view of a better health journey.
As someone who has been in the healthcare industry for a long time, I have learned so much about the value of viewing one’s health holistically rather than focusing only on areas that are problematic. Gone are the days of the one-size-fits-all fad diets that ruled the 80s, 90s and early 2000s… anyone remember the dreaded cabbage soup diet? These days, there is a far greater understanding of taking a personalised approach, which is why OMSMAF offers a tailored nutritional assessment and healthy eating plan across all of our plans.
I know from personal experience that while a healthy lifestyle is one of the best ways to prevent serious illness, it is crucial to keep up with regular screenings, such as women’s and men’s health screenings, dermatology check-ups, colorectal screening, and others provided by OMSMAF.
These benefits are built into your membership and are paid from your risk – or in-hospital – benefits and not your day-to-day limits because we want you to use them!! Helping you protect your health is an enormous part of our job, and we take that very seriously. So please take a few minutes to read our article Putting in enough screening time? which is all about the preventative care and screening benefits available to OMSMAF members, even if you consider yourself too young or too healthy to be at risk. The article will provide you with a wealth of information on how to unlock greater value and benefits that are available to our members.
You will also find some valuable information about effectively communicating with OMSMAF and loads more on the terrific family benefits available to you. And whatever you do, don’t miss the berry smoothie recipe in this newsletter. It’s a serious Spring morning timesaver and a fantastic start to the day!
Take care,
Pamela
