MA-MA-MATERNITY
Get With The Mother And Baby Programme
As you might have noticed from our most recent campaign, at OMSMAF we are big on maternity benefits that give our pregnant members the best possible support during this very special time of their lives. Once your pregnancy is confirmed, these benefits are paid from the Fund’s risk pool, leaving your day to day benefits untouched.
So, just what can you expect when you are an OMSMAF mama-to-be? Antenatal classes, ultrasounds and blood tests? Check. Antenatal supplements and a pregnancy nutrition benefit with support from a registered dietician? Check. Doula, midwife delivery, lactation consultant? Check, check, check! OMSMAF antenatal visits and check-ups are covered either with a General Practitioner or with your Gynaecologist, at scheme rates. It just feels better when you have options, doesn’t it?
Hospital or home?
Speaking of which, if you have a healthy pregnancy and prefer the option of a home birth with a midwife in your own personal environment, we support that. Just as we cover you for an in-hospital delivery, where you can also have the added support of a doula, or birthing coach, should you prefer. As an OMSMAF member, you are covered for all this and so much more so you can focus on your journey of welcoming a new life into the world.
Please just remember that members on the Network SELECT and Traditional SELECT Plans must choose a hospital on the SELECT list of hospitals. Please feel free to browse this list on our website at https://omsmaf.co.za/hospital-lookup
A breastfeeding boost
As the experienced parents among the OMSMAF family know, the journey into parenthood is not without its challenges, and many new mothers find it overwhelming to establish breastfeeding in those early days of newborn life. Breastmilk is undeniably the best source of nourishment for babies, as it is rich in the particular nutrients and antibodies that their little bodies need. That is why we have introduced an out-of-hospital benefit providing access to a registered lactation nurse for a maximum of eight sessions within two weeks of discharge from hospital, paid at Medical Scheme Rates and from your risk benefits and not your day-to-day (or PMSA) limits. This benefit is available on most OMSMAF plans, including the Network, Network SELECT, Savings, Traditional, Traditional SELECT and Traditional Plus plans.
These are just some of the benefits that you can look forward to on your journey of welcoming a new life into the world. We also offer rich newborn and children’s benefits, which you can read more about in our New kid on the block article in this quarter’s newsletter.
As always, we’re just a click or a phone call away, so please reach out at any time by calling 0860 100 076 or visiting the OMSMAF website to learn more about accessing your maternity benefits.
Remember to register, baby, too!
Lastly, please remember to add your new baby as a dependant on your OMSMAF plan within 30 days of birth. You can do this by requesting the necessary forms via email from membership@omsmaf.co.za or by calling 0860 100 076.
