Change of plan?
Here’s when to change your OMSMAF plan
OMSMAF has implemented a number of measures that help us to keep costs in check.
This is done to ensure we have sufficient funds so that you, our valued members, have access to the healthcare you need when you need it. One of these measures relates to when members can change medical scheme plans.
Please remember that if you would like to change to a different OMSMAF plan, the time to do so is at the beginning of the new benefit year, which starts on 1 April each year. Should you wish to change your plan you may do so by logging in to the secure portal at www.omsmaf.co.za or by emailing us at membership@omsmaf.co.za or contacting the Fund on 0860 100 076 once the annual Plan change period opens in February. In general, the Plan change period is open from mid-February for 3-4 weeks. The dates will be communicated to you with the benefit and contribution changes for the new benefit year.
Special circumstances
There is a set of special circumstances under which you are able to change your plan at a time other than the beginning of the benefit year. These circumstances include:
- Retirement or change of employment
- If you or a beneficiary are newly registered on the Oncology Programme
- Following the death of a member
If you are a new employee, you will be auto-enrolled on the Fund as per your terms and conditions of employment with Old Mutual if you fail to join the Fund within 90 days of employment or unless you provide proof of registration on your spouse or partner’s employer-preferred medical scheme to Old Mutual. You will be auto-enrolled on the Network Plan and will have 30 days to request a change of plan and to add dependants.
