WANT TO ACCESS YOUR BONE DENSITY BENEFIT?
Know Where To Go
As a member of OMSMAF, your wellness benefits include one bone density scan per beneficiary per annum. This is particularly beneficial for those beneficiaries who may be at risk of developing osteoporosis – a condition in which your bones become weak, brittle, and prone to breaking. Talk to your doctor about your risk of developing osteoporosis, which can include the following, according to the Mayo Clinic:

- Women are much more likely to develop osteoporosis than are men.
- The older you get, the greater your risk of osteoporosis.
- You’re at greatest risk of osteoporosis if you’re white or of Asian descent.
- Family history. Having a parent or sibling with osteoporosis puts you at greater risk, especially if your mother or father fractured a hip.
- Body frame size. Men and women with small body frames tend to have a higher risk because they might have less bone mass to draw from as they age.
Should you wish to utilise your bone density benefit, you may visit a radiology practice for the appropriate scan since there are very few osteoporosis clinics, and they tend to be located in certain major centres only. However, should you opt to have a bone density scan at an osteoporosis clinic where the costs are equal or similar to that of having the scan at a radiology practice, the Fund will still cover it.
